What is Human Benchmark?
Try Human BenchmarkHuman Benchmark is a free web platform designed to measure various aspects of human cognition through simple, interactive tests. Created to provide a standardized way for anyone to assess their mental performance, the site offers eight distinct challenges that target visual reaction time, memory (both short-term and number-based), verbal memory, typing speed, and even a test comparing human performance to that of a chimpanzee.
Each test provides an immediate score, often with percentile rankings, allowing users to see how they compare to the general population.
Features:
- Reaction Time Test: Measures your visual reflex by clicking or tapping the moment a red screen turns green, calculating your average response time in milliseconds.
- Sequence Memory Test: Presents an increasingly long pattern of illuminated squares that you must repeat by clicking in the correct order, testing your visuospatial short-term memory.
- Number Memory Test: Shows a single number digit‑by‑digit, then asks you to recall and type the entire number correctly – the sequence length grows with each success.
- Verbal Memory Test: Displays a word and asks you to decide if you have seen it before in the current session, measuring your ability to retain and recognise words over time.
- Chimp Test: Mirrors a famous working‑memory experiment where number buttons (1 to 9+) flash briefly; you must click them in ascending order from memory, comparing your score to a chimpanzee’s performance.
- Typing Test: Provides a short passage (usually a few sentences) and times how long it takes you to type it exactly, calculating your net words per minute (WPM) with accuracy penalty.
