What is LightningMaps?
Try LightningMapsLightningMaps is a web-based platform that visualizes lightning activity across the globe in real time. It is part of a community-driven project connected to the Blitzortung lightning detection network, which collects data from distributed sensors and displays it on interactive maps.
The platform shows lightning “strokes” detected via radio frequency signals, updating continuously as storms occur. Users can watch lightning activity as it happens, including the movement of thunderstorms and the intensity and frequency of strikes.
It is designed primarily for educational, informational, and hobbyist use rather than official meteorological forecasting. The system relies on a global network of volunteer-operated sensors, making it a unique, community-powered weather visualization tool.
